Azelis opens a premium class Laboratory Suite in the UK

10 November 2014

Azelis has made a significant investment in laboratory facilities at its UK site in Hertford as part of a strategic review across its businesses;designed to drive sustainable, profitable growth and extend value-added services for principals and customers.

A premium class suite comprising Personal Care, Homecare and Pharma laboratories opened in November 2014, enhancing Azelis’ capabilities for formulation and technical support, trouble-shooting advice, business generation, ingredient approvals and knowledge-based solutions.

The company has long established partnerships with world class manufacturers, offering customers access to quality ingredients that are now present in many leading brands.  Joan Traynor, Managing Director, Azelis UK  said, “Dedicated sales, marketing and technical support of innovative ingredients forms the cornerstone of our Life Sciences business and we are continually looking to improve our service provision along the value chain for customers and principals.”

Tony Craske, International Business Director, Azelis Personal Care agrees, “Innovation is a key driver in our industry and we work closely with our partners on specific formulation and project support.  We test new developments, improvements in existing products and application ideas for ingredients. Our renowned technical teams can rapidly provide answers at any stage of product development from concept to manufacture.”

Claire Summers, International R&D Manager adds, “Our ability to offer technical training days to customers and suppliers is becoming increasingly popular.  Visitors love to ‘come and play’- investigating novel ingredients to develop formulations with unique characteristics expertly blended to meet the needs of today’s consumers.”

The Personal Care lab in Hertford develops fully stability tested formulations for skin care, hair care, sun care, body care, colour cosmetics, oral care and fragrances in a variety of bases - everything apart from aerosols.  Azelis has 7 Personal Care laboratories in Europe and China with a new facility opening in Paris in 2015.

A dedicated team to service the needs of the growing Homecare and Industrial Cleaning market was set up in 2013 and the new Homecare lab is part of the next stage of business development.  Going forward, this lab will increase its formulation activity for autocare, hard surface cleaners, laundry, hygiene and specialist polishes, whilst working with customers and principals on specific projects.

Once fully equipped, the Pharma lab will examine synergies between excipients, APIs and pharmaceutical grade flavours.   This answers a demand from customers who are looking to improve their over-the-counter formulations to be more universally accepted by end users.  The new lab will also have the capability to coat tablets in a variety of formats.
