MORE than 200 delegates attended a seminar in India to help chemical businesses there deal with the ramifications of the new REACH Regulation in Europe.

The seminar, staged on May 29 at the World Trade Centre, Mumbai, was jointly organised by Azelis, Europe’s leading distributor of specialty chemicals, polymers and associated services and Chemexcil, the Basic Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals & Cosmetics Export Promotion Council.

Azelis imports around US $22 million worth of products from India and is currently in negotiation with a number of potential Indian partners with a view to significantly growing in this market.

The seminar was designed to share essential knowledge about REACH with Indian chemical manufacturers and formulators and explain how the revolutionary regulations will impact upon them as non-EU companies.

Senior representatives from the Indian Ministry of Chemistry and the Ministry of Commerce were amongst those welcomed by Chemexcil Executive Director Mrs Smita Samant.

The Mumbai event follows another similar seminar staged by Azelis in Shanghai in March which attracted 70 delegates from 50 Chinese companies. More conferences in the Far East are being scheduled by Azelis for later this year.
