Azelis receives approval of science-based emissions reduction targets from the SBTi

26 May 2026

Azelis, the reference innovation service provider in the speciality chemicals and food ingredients industry, is pleased to announce that its near-term science-based emissions reduction targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The approved targets support Azelis’s sustainability strategy and reinforce the group’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across both its operations and value chain.

The SBTi has approved the following near-term science-based targets for Azelis:

  • Azelis commits to reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 42% by 2030 from a 2022 base year.
  • Azelis commits to ensuring that suppliers accounting for 75% of its purchased goods and services related emissions have science-based targets by 2030.

Benefits of the approved science-based targets:

  • Customers gain a partner focused on reducing emissions across both operations and the wider supply chain.
  • Principals benefit from increased collaboration on sustainability priorities and climate-related supplier engagement.
  • Azelis strengthens its approach to delivering emission reductions through targets aligned with climate science and the goals of the Paris Agreement.

The approved targets reflect Azelis’s focus on reducing emissions across its own operations and its wider supply chain. Scope 3 emissions account for more than 95% of Azelis’s total emissions footprint, underscoring the importance of supplier engagement and collaboration to the group’s sustainability approach.

The approval follows a detailed assessment by the SBTi and confirms that Azelis’s targets are aligned with current climate science and internationally recognised pathways for emissions reduction.

Anna Bertona, Group CEO at Azelis, commented:

“Sustainability remains one of the key accelerators of Azelis’s long-term growth strategy. Having our near-term science-based targets approved by the SBTi reinforces our commitment to responsible growth and demonstrates the importance we place on measurable, credible climate impact. We believe collaboration across the value chain will play an essential role in reducing emissions and supporting more sustainable industries.”

Michael Heite, Group Sustainability Director at Azelis, commented:

“Supplier engagement will play a central role in delivering our targets. We will continue working closely with suppliers on the adoption of science-based targets and related emissions reduction initiatives, while also improving product-level transparency through product carbon footprint exchange.”

Through its global footprint, technical expertise, and close collaboration with customers and principals, Azelis continues to support the development of more sustainable solutions across the Life Sciences and Industrial Chemicals markets. Sustainability is embedded within the group’s strategy, innovation activities, and operational priorities, helping customers and principals navigate changing regulatory, environmental, and market expectations.

The Science Based Targets initiative is a global corporate climate action organisation that enables companies to align emissions reduction targets with the latest climate science and the goals of the Paris Agreement.
